Iran Spotlight
Abstract:
This course will give you the toolkit needed to start telling stories with data.
About this course:
The most common question that comes up when journalists are introduced to data techniques is: how can I make it relevant to my own work? The open data storytelling course will give you techniques for approaching data in a way that generates stories. It will introduce you to charts and spreadsheet techniques that will help bring depth and context to your reporting. You will also get to know the history of how data journalism and open data evolved together.
What do I learn:
You will learn about how to avoid getting lost in spreadsheets and start making your own stories. You will also get tips for best practice in data storytelling, with a focus on being clear and transparent in your reporting.
What do I need to know:
You need to have basic spreadsheet skills, but some of these will be recapped during the course.
