Filterwatch provides wide-ranging research and analysis about the state of digital rights in Iran, available in both Persian and English.
The site seeks to provide tools and resources to keep our readers informed, and enable human rights advocates, journalists, and campaigners to advocate for a free and open internet in Iran.
The regular publications featured on filter.watch include:
Monthly Policy Monitor: Featuring analysis and updates from the latest news on Iran’s internet policy, including updates on infrastructure, digital economy, cybercrime and security, and social media filtering.
Monthly Network Monitor: Providing monthly monitoring and analysis of network health and infrastructure development in Iran, and analysis to make sense of internet disruptions.
FATA and Judiciary Monitor: A quarterly report scrutinising the judiciary and Iran’s Cyber Police (FATA) and tracking their work to downgrade digital rights in Iran. We will work closely with other human rights organisations with access to stories of human rights abuses in Iran to ensure that FATA’s role in enforcing arbitrary detentions does not go unnoticed.
Investigations: Monthly reports offering a closer look at evolving and emerging trends across different areas of the Iranian internet, exploring the strategies and reasoning behind these developments, and providing guideposts for what we can expect in the future.
This project gives you some helpful insights into the landscape of digital rights in Iran. The Filterwatch team will be updating and adding to the library of resources and reports regularly, so you can keep an eye out for the future newsletters, or follow them on social media channels on Twitter (en & fa) and Instagram (fa).
